We accept movies only with English subtitles / in English language.
Preview copy won't be returned to sender - it will stay in festival archives.
When you're outside EU, please state on your package "For cultural purpose only".

After pre-selection, when accepted, applicant will be asked to send dialogue list and trailer or eceptions of film no longer than 10% of movie total time for promotial use (website, TV stations) and other promo stuff. More info below.

All informations about handling & transportation of 35mm screening copies will be send directly to all submiters.

SCREENING COPY

You don't need to send us 35mm screening copy if you have it also in digital form: DVD or Blue Ray. We have hight quality digital system in festival cinemas. So we leave it up to you to decide.

 

Rules & regulations »


1. COMPETITION


Film Competition will be held in Sopot, as a part of 10th Sopot Film Festival (the Festival).


The competition is open for professional creators, film school students and independent filmmakers.

Competition is made up of main 3 sections:

a) Fantastic Worlds:
All kinds of fantastic feature movies & animations, longer than 60 min.
Genres: sci-fi, fantasy, thriller, horror, action, suspense, humor grotesque, film noir, anime, etc.

b) World Spectrum:
All kinds of feature movies longer than 60 min.
Independent visions, new ideas, debutes...

c) World Shorts & Short Anima competitions:
Short Feature - Short narrative - up to 30 min
Short Animation - Narrative & experimental animation (flash, 3D, 2D, etc.) - up to 30 min
In short sections we're looking both for fantastic features & animations and for movies connected with our previous theme: New Forms & Visions (independent and breakthrough visions, new forms of animations, movies in which filmmakers are trying to answer question: like what is the role of digital technologies, new media, new art and design in creating contemporary life and personal space).

2. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

a) Movie should be produced after 1. January 2008

b) Preview copy must be sent before:

  • 1.05.2010 (short sections)

  • 15.05.2010 (fantastic main competition / other non-competitive sections)

c) Submission package must contain:

  • DVD preview copy

  • Completed and signed entry form

  • Filled on-line form at: www.sff.pl

  • If possible a poster, film stills, extended movie synopsis and other promo stuff on CD / DVD


d) Submission copies on DVD will stay in Organizers archive and won’t be returned to Submitters.

e) There is also alternative way to submit movies by uploading them on-line through Rellport – Digital Film Distribution platform at: www.reelport.com. To do that you must be Reelport registered user. All details and conditions you will find on Reelport website.

f) If uploading through Rellport website, there is no need to send DVD preview copies by post.

g)
Screening copies:

  • For World Shorts & Shorts Anima Competitions festival accepts screening copies only on DVD or Blue Ray

  • For Fantastic Main Competition festival accepts screening copies on 35mm, DVD or Blue Ray

  • Screening copies on DVD or Blue Ray should be send as soon as possible after official selection list will be published

  • Screening copies on 35mm should be delivered to festival office no later than 3 days before festival opening

  • Detailed info about shipment and handling of 35mm copies will be send directly to all submitters after official selection list publication

  • All shipment costs and eventual customs cost of screening copies on DVD or Blue Ray should be paid by Submitter

  • Screening copies on DVD or Blue Ray will stay in festival archive, and won’t be send back.

  • Screening copies on 35mm will be send back to submitter or to other specified address no later than 3 days after the last screening.

3. COPYRIGHTS

a) By applying for the competition Submitter accepts the public presentation of the film at the Festival presentations and special after-festival shows promoting Sopot Film Festival

b) The copyrights of the film must not be limited and must not infringe the copyrights of others. If not, Submitter should attach the statement specifying the legal situation of the film.

c) The person signing the entry form (Submitter) will be considered as the only one speaker to treat aspects related to the participation of the movie in the event and the only representative of all individuals or companies who took part in the production of the movie.

d) For promotional and information purposes related to the event, the festival will be able to use and publish provided materials (stills, posters, cards, script excerpts, press info, etc.). Submitter accepts broadcasting in TV stations and at festival website fragments of the movie (no more than 10% of the time of the film), movie trailers and/or movie teasers.

4. SELECTION & AWARDS

a) The work (movie) will be selected by the pre-qualification committee appointed by the Organizer. In special cases the committee may depart from certain criteria (e.g. year of construction, the duration of the film). The Commission may also qualify movie for another category than Submitter stated in Entry form.

c) Film will be awarded in the categories listed on the festival website at www.sff.pl.

d) Awards may be granted by Jury, Organizers, Festival Audience and other persons connected with culture & media.

e) The festival award (statues) is honorary and does not represent value for money.

5. FINAL COMMENTS

Every change of rules & regulations will be published at festival website.

If the Submitter does not agree with changes - may withdraw the movie from the contest.
