Fantastic Worlds
Fantastic Mr Fox
reż./dir. Wes Anderson
wyst./cast George Clooney, Bill Murray, Meryl Streep
USA, 2009, 87’
It is the story of one Mr. Fox and his wild-ways of hen heckling, turkey taking and cider sipping, nocturnal, instinctive adventures. He has to put his wild days behind him and do what fathers do best: be responsible. He is too rebellious. He is too wild. He is going to try “just one more raid” on the three nastiest, meanest farmers that are Boggis, Bunce and Bean. It is a tale of crossing the line of family responsibilities and midnight adventure and the friendships and awakenings of this country life that is inhabited by Fantastic Mr. Fox and his friends.
FANTASTIC MR. FOX is visionary director Wes Anderson’s first animated film, utilizing classic handmade stop-motion techniques to tell the story of the best-selling children’s book by Roald Dahl (author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach). The film features the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Wally Wolodarsky, Eric Anderson, Michael Gambon, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson, and Jarvis Cocker.
Metropia
reż./dir. Tarik Saleh
wyst./cast Vincent Gallo, Juliet Lewis
Szwecja, Dania / Sweden, Denmark, 2009, 86’
Directed by Tarik Saleh, Metropia is an animated sci-fi movie. The movie takes viewers into not so distant future to the time when the world is running out of oil. Underneath Europe, a huge underground network is established by series of underground tunnels. Roger is a guy from a suburb of Stockholm. He dislikes and always avoids the underground as it is kinda disturbing to him. Also, he hears some strange voices whenever he is too close to the underground. Soon, he comes to know some strange truths about his life. He looks to the mysterious Nina to help him escape the disturbing web of the Metro, but the further they travel, the deeper he’s involved in a dark conspiracy.
“Metropia” now, as being an amazing movie with too high speed and quality, has reached the level of success, which only a few movies acquire. It’s the reason why people are looking for ways to download Metropia.
Mary & Max
reż./dir. Adam Elliot
wyst./cast Philip Seymour Hoffman, Eric Bana
Australia, 2009, 80’
Spanning 20 years and 2 continents, Mary and Max tells of a pen-pal relationship between two very different people: Mary Dinkle (Collette), a chubby, lonely 8-year-old living in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia; and Max Horovitz (Hoffman), a severely obese, 44-year-old Jewish man with Asperger’s Syndrome living in the chaos of New York City. As Mary and Mas chronicles Mary’s trip from adolescence to adulthood, and Max’s passage from middle to old age, it explores a bond that survives much more than the average friendship’s ups-and-downs. Like Elliot and Coombs’ Oscar® winning animated short Harvie Krumpet, Mary and Max is both hilarious and poignant as it takes us on a journey that explores friendship, autism, taxidermy, psychiatry, alcoholism, where babies come from, obesity, kleptomania, sexual differences, trust, copulating dogs, religious differences, agoraphobia and many more of life’s surprises.
Moon
reż./dir. Duncan Jones
wyst./cast Sam Rockwell, Kevin Spacey
Wlk.Brytania / UK, 2009, 98’
Sam Bell has a three year contract to work for Lunar Industries. For the contract’s entire duration, he is the sole employee based at their lunar station. His primary job responsibility is to harvest and periodically rocket back to Earth supplies of helium-3, the current clean and abundant fuel used on Earth. There is no direct communication link available between the lunar station and Earth, so his only direct real-time interaction is with GERTY, the intelligent computer whose function is to attend to his day to day needs. With such little human contact and all of it indirect, he feels that three years is far too long to be so isolated; he knows he is beginning to hallucinate as the end of his three years approaches. All he wants is to return to Earth to be with his wife Tess and their infant daughter Eve, who was born just prior to his leaving for this job. With two weeks to go, he gets into an accident at one of the mechanical harvesters and is rendered unconscious. Injured, he awakens back at the station in the infirmary, he assumes assisted by GERTY. GERTY tells him that a rescue team named Eliza will come to the station to clean up the aftermath of the accident...
Kislorod / Oxygen
reż. Iwan Vyrypayev
wyst./cat Karolina Gruszka, Aleksiej Filimonow
Rosja / Russia, 2009, 75’
Ivan Vyrypayev’s film is an adaptation of his controversial play Oxygen, where the Decalogue was presented in rap style, and which was declared by critics a manifesto of “anaerobic art”. A love story is told in a modern, sometimes poetic and sometimes kitschy form, combining nearly all genres of popular culture. There is romance here, drama, horror and a criminal story to boot. An ironic parable divided into ten word and music scenes which combine spoken text with music, it resembles a video clip, with references to the aesthetics of graffiti, comic books, TV and the internet. But above all, this dynamic portrait of people stifled by their humdrum existence is a parable about the futile search for real life, feelings and God: for oxygen referred to in the title. The director says about his work: My country is showing off with its wealth; we show the smart president, St Petersburg and the Kremlin. I belong to the last generation of pioneers and members of Komsomol, all harmed by the USSR. When we were children, we were made to believe that communism would prevail. As young people we were shocked by the collapse of the empire. Now we have to cope with the cruelties of capitalism. All I can do is say it out loud.
Le Merditude des Choses
reż./dir. Felix van Groeningen
Belgia, Holandia / Belgium, Holland, 2009, 108’
The story is a surprising and original combination of comedy, tragedy and romance, dark humor and cold cynicism, combined with the atmosphere of Roy’s Orbison music. Many scenes have a comic character, or even absurd. It is not only pure sarcasm, but also joy through tears.
Strobbs are mainly gamblers, drunks and womanizers, living in the atmosphere of blissful laziness, idleness, quarrels, and mainly filled with liquor, crazy party. Ridiculous ideas happen every day, and the more crazy they are then better, because everyone are more eager to realize them.

Videocracy
reż./dir. Erik Gandini
Szwecja / Sweden, 2009, 80’
In Italy, for thirty odd years, society is ruled by television. The image has been controlled by one man. TV-magnate and Presidente Silvio Berlusconi has influenced the content of commercial television in a way never before done in Italy. His TV-channels, with their young skimpy-clad girls, are seen by many to mirror his own taste and personality. Today 80 percent of the Italian population has television as their prime or even the only one source of information. Erik Gandini, Italian film director who lived for years in Sweden, known for his uncompromising contemporary images in films such as “Overproduction. Terror consumption and “Gitmo - the new law of war.”, explores this subject. It began modestly - in 1976, a local station showed a game show late in the evening, in which after each correct answer housewives present in the studio would take off a part of their wardrobe. The next day, the television station received complaints from the local business community, because most of program viewers where men and they were late to work next morning. This event has shown the future of television. Its main message was the fun part. And the best fun for Italian television audience are crowds of naked women.
The Cove

The only way to stop the evil acts of this company and the town that protects it is to expose them....and that’s exactly what the brave group of activists in The Cove intend to do.
Part environmental documentary, part horror film, part spy thriller, The Cove is as suspenseful as it is enlightening. The final result is a heart-wrenching, but inspirational, story that shows the true power of film in the hands of people who aren’t afraid to risk everything for a vital cause.
